Indian sandstone colour enhancer/sealant

This question was asked by

Could you advise which ( if any) of your products would be best suited for the above?

I have been looking at water based products for eco reasons and also because I understand that solvent based products cause pooling when it rains as they compromise the breathability of the stone? I would like a product that enhances the colour of the sandstone and also protects it. I am not looking for a high gloss finish, just a slight sheen which brings out the colours.

Any advice on the types of product and advantages/disadvantages would be much appreciated.

Ok first things first, when initially laid all sealers will cause water to pool, but after it has weathered in a bit it will stop pooling and drain off normally (like when you freshly wax a car).

Yes most water based sealers are more breathable but this only means that moisture vapour from underneath the stone can escape and will not affect the water falling on the surface.

Water based sealers are good to use especially from an eco stand point however as you are looking to lift and enhance the colours I would recommend using a solvent based sealer as they do a much, much better job of enhancing the colours.

I have included a link below to the sealer i would recommend using.

What is the best sealer to use for a resin bound aggregate driveway?

This question was asked by
Graham Felton

Hi I have a resin surface driveway. The stones are coming loose more often. Could you tell me what sealer I would need and the best application. Kind regards Graham

Hi Graham

The only sealers I ever recommend using on Resin bound stone are our water based sealers (linked below).

Solvent based sealers, if over applied can cause the resin bound stone to lift and ultimately break up, using the water based you will never have this issue, regardless of how much you apply.

How do I remove NewLook stains?

Due to the penetrating pigments in Newlook stains once they are dry they can be difficult to remove. The best prevention is to mask off areas and be conscientious during the application process.

Nonetheless accidents do happen, no matter how careful we are, so if the stain hasn’t dried simply clean the area with a damp towel. If the stain is dry then use Newlooks Easystrip 1000.

Is your High Gloss PU safe to use on laminate tiles?

Hi, just wondering if your High Gloss PU is safe to use on high gloss white laminate tiles?

The High gloss PU should be ok to use, but, it is not something I have ever tested it on so I cannot say with 100% certainty that it will be ok. You would need to test it before applying to the whole area.

How do I apply the Translucent Colour Enhancer?

You can use any preferred method of application as the Translucent Colour Enhancer can be left to dry naturally. The amount of applications of Translucent colour enhancer is the only defining factor in the appearance of depth in the finished surface. To intensify the colour hue add NewLook Color Additive. With practice and imagination different effects and faux finishes can be achieved.

Why should I seal?

Applying the sealer will protect the surface, reduce maintenance, and help it last longer. In addition, it will also stop oil and grease stains and help resist the growth of weeds, moss and algae. It is particularly important to use a sealer on block paving as it acts as a structural stabiliser.

The sand is a structural part of block paving spreading the load by friction from one block to the next. It is important to keep the sand in position and stop it being eroded by wind and rain water. The protective properties of the sealer will not only lengthen the life of your paving (as it reduces physical wear), but will also keep it looking like new as the inbuilt UV filter will help retain its natural colour. InvisiSeal is not designed to stabilise sand so is not recommended if sand stabilisation is required
